Lower School Music Teacher (Part-Time)
2019-2020 School Year

Trinity Episcopal School seeks applications for a part-time lower school (K-4) music teacher for the 2019-2020 school year, beginning August 2019. This is a collaborative, co-teaching position.

Overview of position: At Trinity we believe that a musician exists in all children.  Our goal is to nurture these musicians by providing them with opportunities to appreciate, create, and perform music through music literacy and instruction.  Trinity students sing together daily in chapel and are exposed to a wide array of Christian, traditional, and global musical experiences and concepts during their music classes. At Trinity, we hone children’s musical skills as a means to increase self-confidence, encourage empathy and teamwork, reinforce our core values, and unite our community through group performances. 

Responsibilities include: The two music teachers collaborate to write daily lesson plans that ensure a coherent curriculum across K-4.  They split all K-4 classes (15 unique homeroom classes), each class attending music 1 time/3 day rotation.   

In addition to teaching lower school music classes, teachers are also responsible for:

  • directing musical performances 
  • leading our annual K-4 Christmas Pageant
  • planning field trips or guest artist presentations, as appropriate
  • playing the piano for daily chapel service
  • working together, alongside the Chaplain, to select age appropriate songs to be sung during chapel
  • collaborating with the Middle School music teacher to select music for combined performances during All School Chapel 
  • accompanying the Middle School choir or making accompaniment recordings for the Middle School choir and theater arts program

Qualifications:  Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school, superior teaching skills, excellent character, and a proven legacy of outstanding classroom performance.  Excellent writing skills and strong verbal communication skills are expected.  Ability to be an innovative, collaborative, and positive member of the faculty is required.
