Ubuntu - "I Am, Because We Are"
"Ubuntu," is a South African philosophy which means "I am, because we are." It speaks to our interconnectedness. As Desmond Tutu once explained, "We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity." Influenced by this philosophy, every January, Trinity participates in a multi-disciplinary celebration focusing on peace, love, diversity, justice, equity, kindness, community, and service. Homilies in chapel, lessons in classrooms and activities in advisories will emphasize these elements. In honor of this year's celebration, we adorned the Jane Hill Hall Gallery with some Ubuntu-aligned words of wisdom from some very special faces. Check it out!
