PE Exemption Requirements
- The student must participate in the activity, under professional supervision, a minimum of eight (8) hours each week.
- At least six (6) of these hours must be completed Monday through Friday.
- Arrangements for alternative activities for inclement weather days must be made (or outdoor activities) by the professional instructor.
- The student must participate in the physical education exemption program for the entire trimester.
- Extended absence for injury or illness will be excused only with a physician’s letter. In this case, the student must still maintain hours with a combination of medical treatment (rehabilitation) and supervised activity. If a student cannot participate at all, a doctor’s note is required. Students must continue to go to their outside instructor and do alternative activities even if he or she is injured.
- Students must maintain good standing with Trinity in both academics and behavior in order to participate in the physical education exemption program.
A student’s physical education exemption may be revoked at the discretion of the Director of Athletics and Physical Education, the Middle School Head or the Head of School under the following conditions:
- The student’s attendance in the outside activity falls below the minimum requirement of eight (8) hours per week.
- The student’s achievement in any of his or her academic classes falls below 70.
- The student’s participation in the exemption program negatively impacts attendance and participation in the regular school day.
- The student does not maintain positive behavioral standards.
