Measuring Student Success

Trinity tracks up to 52 competencies (31 academic, 21 behavioral) and includes them in your child’s report card each trimester. We also use more than 20 national benchmarks to track how Trinity students compare to those at other schools. All of this information is analyzed within the context of your child’s specific learning profile. Every trimester, our data response teams (DRTs) spend hours analyzing the numbers in order to assess and modify each student’s unique educational journey.

The benchmarks we used are based on the Comprehensive Testing Program (CTP), a rigorous assessment administered by the Educational Records Bureau. The CTP helps educators assess content-specific, curriculum-based performance alongside reasoning ability and conceptual knowledge. Beginning in 4th grade, Trinity students take assessments in seven areas: Verbal Reasoning, Vocabulary Reading Comprehension, Writing Mechanics, Writing Concepts and Skills, Quantitative Reasoning, and Mathematics.

Median Student Performance

Median Student Performance for the Comprehensive Testing Program (CTP) for 8th graders in 2022 — Why focus on 8th grade data? We meet students where they are at every step of their journey from pre-K through 8th grade, and learning trajectories differ for each student for each competency. When analyzing CTP results, 8th-grade performance most accurately reflects how well we prepare our students for high school and beyond.

Ahead of the Curve

A single statistic can't tell a complex story. However, median student performance is one of the best ways to quantify school performance on the CTP with just one number. You might expect that independent schools outperform public schools. The median independent school student scores in the 86th percentile, which is a pretty high bar. However, Trinity students raised the bar even higher. Our median student performance beat out the median for all independent school students nationwide.
