Division Wins and a Commitment to Player Growth at Every Level

PLUS! How Coach Garcia's Team Went from Underdogs to Division Champs

What a winter season it’s been for Trinity athletics! From buzzer-beaters to breathtaking swims, our student-athletes gave it their all, showing heart, hustle, and a whole lot of school spirit. At Trinity, our PE teachers double as coaches, building lasting relationships with students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. That connection makes all the difference, and this season was proof of just how special our program is.

One of the biggest stories of the season? Coach David Garcia’s 7th and 8th-grade boys’ basketball team. After struggling during the regular season, the team entered the tournament as underdogs and triumphed in an epic triple-overtime win to take the 4A championship.

“I told the guys, ‘Just play as hard as you can and have fun,’” Coach Garcia said. “Seeing their joy and improvement was an amazing experience.”

Trinity teams brought home multiple championships this season. The 7/8 2A boys’ basketball team, coached by Coach Hovre, and the 5/6 3A boys’ team, led by Coach Johnson, each captured their division titles. Meanwhile, Coach Drew Brummer’s 5/6 1A boys’ basketball team fought hard throughout the season and finished in 2nd place. The 5/6 2A boys, coached by Coach Hovre, and the 5/6 3A Navy girls, led by Coach Rodriguez, also made impressive runs, each finishing as runner-ups. On the soccer field, our 7/8 2A soccer team, led by Coach Pavelka, battled their way to the semifinals.

It wasn’t just basketball that made waves this winter. At the AIPL Championship Swim Meet, the girls’ team took home first place overall and the boys’ team finished second. Standout performances included Brooklyn B.’s victory in the 100-yard freestyle, Hanne P. first-place finish in the 100-yard IM and 200-yard freestyle, and Adelaide C.’s wins in the 50-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle. Olivia D. and Hailey A. also dominated in multiple events, securing top spots in backstroke and relays. On the boys’ side, Max M. took first place in the 50-yard butterfly and helped lead his team—alongside Tobias B., Alejandro R., and Bennett B.—to victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Coach Garcia, who has coached at different levels, loves how Trinity’s program gives every student a chance to develop their skills. “We focus on individual growth so that players are ready for the next level.”

At Trinity, we believe in making sure every student gets meaningful playing time and grows both on and off the court. As Coach Garcia puts it, “The resources here are unmatched. The coaches are extremely approachable. They take the time to talk to parents before and after practice and understand that every child is different, every home dynamic is different.”

Coach Garcia also loves how Trinity balances competition and opportunity for all players.

“We always focus on making sure every child owns their playing time, splitting it up as evenly as possible. Every child is placed in a position where they’re going to succeed and gain that experience.”

Congratulations to all of our winter teams! We are a singular Trinity Tornado because we are united as one force, all working together and striving toward excellence. When one of our teams wins, we all win.

That balance of development and competition is at the heart of Trinity athletics, and this winter season was a testament to that philosophy—one filled with grit, growth, and plenty of unforgettable moments. Here’s to more amazing seasons ahead. Go, Tornado!
