Robotics and the FIRST® LEGO® League Competition
In March, Trinity's FIRST® LEGO® League robotics club concluded a historic season, advancing all the way to the Texas state competition held in Stafford, TX on March 11, 2023. The program also saw its highest participation ever, fielding four teams: Bussin' Bots, Prometheans, Robosapiens, and Time Traveling Tornadoes.
Prometheans represented Trinity at the state championship after earning "2nd Place Champions Award" at the regional round in San Antonio on March 4. Also at the regional round, Bussin' Bots earned the "3rd place Robot Design" award, though they did not advance. At the qualifying competition on February 4, Robosapiens earned the "1st place Robot Design" award, and Prometheans received the "Breakthrough" award.
All of these middle schoolers, their parents, Ms. Venkatesh, and all of the support staff/volunteers have put in a ton of work this year, going back to last summer — and it has paid off! Congratulations to all of the competitors!
About FIRST® LEGO® League
FIRST® LEGO® League (FFL) is an extracurricular robotics program that introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children through fun, exciting hands-on learning. This guided, global robotics program develops skills in problem solving, critical thinking, coding, and design through hands-on STEM learning and robotics.
Middle School students at Trinity participate in FFL's "Challenge" division, where small teams build and program a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of the "Robot Game."
The challenge for 2022-2023 is SUPERPOWERED, for which robots must collect energy units from different sources around a mat and distribute them to where the energy will be consumed. Points are scored for releasing energy units from the models and for delivering energy units to target destinations.
