Preschool Isn't Too Early to Celebrate Service

Preschool Isn't Too Early to Celebrate Service

by Bethani Emery, Director of Admission

We all are connected and have a role to play in making the world a better place. Service is something we celebrate, and it starts at an early age! Events like Earth Day provide great opportunities to teach young children about serving others and taking care of the world around us.

Last year, we launched a two-year initiative to teach our children the importance of sustainability, and we're excited to continue these efforts this year. Here’s a snapshot of how we’re helping our little ones become good stewards of the earth:

Gardening & Composting

Our hands-on approach to teaching kids about where their food comes from and how we can reduce waste by composting.

UN Sustainability Goal 15, Life on Land

We’ve adopted a specific goal from the United Nations' 17 Sustainability Goals for its 2030 Agenda. We’re introducing these big ideas in age-appropriate ways to make them fun and educational.

Recycling & Awareness

We're showing kids how simple actions, like recycling, can make a big difference.

My own child (pictured above) was deeply concerned about the environmental impact of balloons after our back-to-school celebrations this year. Independently he took action, "writing letters" to his teachers and even meeting with the head of school and division head to ensure the balloons were cleaned up. It’s moments like these that show how aware and active children can be.

By involving our preschoolers in these initiatives, we're not only making them more aware of environmental issues but also empowering them to take action and be part of the solution, one small step at a time. Together, we can take care of our environment right here, right now, and set them up to be lifelong earth stewards.
