Trinity Book Festival Inspires Students' Love of Literature
By Maddie Spencer, Marketing Intern
Each year, our community hosts the Trinity Book Festival, a week-long celebration of reading and fun events that get our students excited about literature and literacy. Even with the added challenges, the goal for this year's festival remained the same.
The week started with visits to the book display, where our Lower School students made wishlists to take home and use for shopping at the Online Book Fair hosted by BookPeople.
Lower schoolers also had the pleasure of meeting virtually with author Ryan T. Higgins over Zoom. He read one of his books and showed the students how to draw some of its characters in his unique style.
Middle schoolers met with Meredith Davis, author of Her Own Two Feet: A Rwandan Girl's Brave Fight to Walk. Davis spoke to the students about the importance of working hard to overcome your struggles and finding joy in the simplest moments of our everyday lives.
Higgins and Davis engaged Trinity students by connecting their work to valuable lessons.
Another highlight of the Book Festival was our annual Literary Character Parade where students, teachers, faculty, and staff dressed up as their favorite book characters. Instead of the usual parade, we created a video to showcase some of the amazing characters, including Mr. Happy, Harry Potter, and many more.
Book Festival closed with the crowning of our students' favorite books. The 2020-2021 winners of the Trinity Book Awards are as follows:
We Will ROCK our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins
The Incredibly Dead Pets of Rex Dexter by Aaron Reynolds
Her Own Two Feet by Meredith Davis and Rebeka Uwitonze
I Will Always Write Back by Caitlin Alifrenka and Martin Ganda
Special thanks to everyone who participated in the 2020 Trinity Book Festival! We look forward to celebrating reading with you again next year!
